Nearly 20 years ago in 1996, two of the 90’s biggest pop bands named Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls emerged on the music scene and by saying that they conquered “world domination” is not one bit of an exaggeration.
Forward 20 years later in 2016, it is heavily rumoured that both groups will tour together to celebrate the release of both of their debut albums!
A.J. McLean from the Backstreet Boys told Rolling Stone the following: “The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about,”
“But we’re going back in on the 12th to dust off the cobwebs. We’re working with a new producer, Jay Cash, who wrote ’Sugar’ for Maroon 5. This is just the beginning phase, but we’re hoping to have the album done before our cruise in May.”
Nick Carter, also from the band, followed McLean’s news by revealing that the whole thing was his idea. He told E! Online, “I actually did a little Twitter shout-out to Mel B because we’re friends and I said, ‘Hey this could be a cool idea. What if we did a Backstreet Boys-Spice Girls tour?’
“And there were talks in the past about it and we had done the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys tour in the past,” he continued. “I think this would be that last hurrah — the two big groups from the late ‘90s. Maybe do a world tour, stadiums, stuff like that and do a package together. It’s just an idea.”
Should this happen? Y E S !
Well here are the reasons…
20 YEARS IS A PERFECT MILESTONE TO CELEBRATE
Any old excuse to party like it’s
1999 1996 tbh but 20 years is the perfect even number to celebrate the release of anyone’s debut album! 20 years is an impressive number for two pop bands to still be considered relevant today.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH 90’S NOSTALGIA
If someone tells you that too much nostalgia isn’t good for you then they are lying or obviously didn’t grow up in the 90s. This tour is the perfect way to reminisce on those golden 90’s days when platform shoes, dungarees and even eyebrow piercings were the standard thing. WE WANNA HEAR ‘WANNABE’ LIVE AND WE ALSO WANNA HEAR ‘I WANT IT THAT WAY’ TOO. That really isn’t too much to ask for!
THIS WILL 10000% BE A SUCCESSFUL TOUR
You don’t have to be Raven Baxter to be able to predict this will be a highly successful tour in the future. I mean, BOTH bands are on the arena level if they toured singly so together this could takeover the stadium circuit! And we ain’t just talking about them touring in one country here, we’re talking worldwide baby!
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THIS WOULD BE US ALL AT THE CONCERTS!
