Haim – Days Are Gone
The three sisters Este, Danielle and Alana released their highly anticipated album in September this year and the album has been a worldwide success and it went straight to #1 in the UK stopping Justin Timberlake getting the top spot. The girls had released their first two singles last year and two more this year and have played various huge live shows from their own gigs to massive festivals like Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds. The album is very solid filled with their own sound and influences to benefit the record. The album was my personal favourite of 2013 and you can read our album review for it here.
AlunaGeorge – Body Music
The UK Electronic duo Aluna and George were nominated for the BBC Sound of 2013 poll in December last year and came second place. Since then the band have released their debut album Body Music which was my second favourite release of 2013. The album is filled with fun pop electronic tracks with such a nice chill element to it. Their sound has been influenced from old school R&B and Garage which really gives them a unique sound. The duo have also toured a lot in 2013 including festivals like Reading and Leeds, Lovebox and Glastonbury. Read the album review we did here.
London Grammar – If You Wait
British trio London Grammar released If You Wait in early September in the UK and bagged themselves a #2 album in the chart. Their electronica trip hop chilled sound really sets them apart from other acts. The album has outstanding reviews across the board and they have now started to have international success including in Australia where they got a #2 album over there too. The band also have a sold out tour in 2014 and I can’t wait to hear more!
Ariana Grande – Yours Truly
American Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande released Yours Truly in August 2013 and has never looked back. The album was an instant #1 in the US selling over 100,000 in its first week and the record also went top 10 in countries like Canada, the UK, Australia and Ireland. The album is very Pop, R&B and Soul with a very Whitney Houston/Mariah Carey 90’s sound. The album has had positive reviews all round and Ariana says she plans to release her 2nd studio album next year and we all can’t wait to hear that already!
Lorde – Pure Heroine
New Zealand singer Lorde made a huge impact with her worldwide #1 single Royals this year. The track has had huge airplay across the globe and has now made her be nominated for huge awards like the Grammys next year. Her debut album Pure Heroine has gone to #1 in her home country and Australia and a top 10 success in countries like the US and UK. Lorde, only 17 years old has shown a lot of potential at such a young age, we all just can’t wait what she delivers next in the near future.
The 1975 – The 1975
Manchester based indie rock band The 1975 had already released 4 EPs between 2012 and 2013 before they released their self titled debut album in September this year but it was all worth the wait! The band topped the charts in the UK in the first release week beating Nine Inch Nails album comeback to #1 and they have released catchy singles like Chocolate and Girls. The band have had a sold out UK tour this year and will enter 2014 with a sold out UK tour too starting in January.
